Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the reality is that balancing the mind, body and spirit is as simple as applying the laws of health.
As with any endeavour, there are essential requirements, foundations, and fundamentals that produce consistent and predictable results.
Mind, Body and Spirit are no different.
What I have noticed, working with thousands of people who ask me the question of how to balance mind, body and spirit, are really asking how do I get energy, mental focus, and feel fulfilled.
You see balance is not really what they are seeking. It is vibrant health they are seeking which comes in three forms. These three forms which I will explain will help to simplify for you what you are actually looking for if balance is what you are seeking.
When you decide to add health, in any way, you will be influencing these three forms with each endeavour. Eating, exercise, meditation, fun, passionate work and intimacy will influence all three domains.
So just to make health and your goals a little easier, here are the three forms to help and learn how to balance mind, body and spirit.
1) Vitality- Any person that is having a functional problem with any part of their body seeks energy and vitality. When this vitality is perceived as lacking, especially when a body part is not healing at the rate in which we want, we begin to question our vitality, we may feel old, frail, or just like we don’t have enough vitality or energy to have something improve or make progress.
2) Clarity- When we have multiple competing thoughts, foggy head, confused thinking, we perceive we need to balance the mind in some way. And this is correct except what we are really looking for is clarity. The mind is the like the windshield of the car, and when it gets dirty with stresses of life, we are looking more for clarity than we are balance. Clarity of thought is an amazing feeling that adds vitality to the body.
3) Fulfillment- When we are doing what we love and having fun doing it, we call this fulfillment. When we are bored, disheartened by our work, not giving our gifts to the world, not pushing toward our potential, we feel less than fulfilled and think we need our spirit balanced. This is not totally true. More than balancing our spirit, which can’t be balanced anyway (because its divinely perfect and doesn’t actually get imbalanced)- we need to feel fulfilled. Fulfillment is more related to a “soulful expression” of our unique gifts and talents. That’s what will light your life up and that adds clarity to your mind and vitality to your body.
So before you go looking for things to balance your body, mind and spirit, take a look to see where you can add more vitality, clarity and fulfillment in the areas I mentioned.
Love and light,
Dr. Steve
