Embrace impermanence. Imagine if you tried to stop the seasons from happening?
Imagine if you tried to make it spring when it was winter, or fall when it was spring?
Imagine how grumpy you get when you want summer to be longer when the fall air comes blowing through?
You can’t stop nature. It’s constantly changing. We must embrace this impermanence.
And remember, humans are part of nature.
They change. And you can’t stop it.
Your mother, father, brother, sister, coworker, aunt, uncle, spouse, kids…all change.
Often times though, we want them to stay the same and as they change, we suffer, judge, ridicule, and get angry when they act outside of the way we have boxed them in and want them to be.
I remember a saying from one of my mentors who said, “freedom is always intimidating to those who aren’t free”
By this he means, can you allow those around you to change? Are you free enough to allow people to change and be who they must be? Can you embrace the impermanent nature of human beings?
It’s not easy, but I’m sure there is someone close or distant to you, that requires you to take this perspective so that you can come out of judgement and into loving them even more.
Think hard, who is changing you needs your love? Hey, maybe it’s even YOU!
Love and light,
Dr. Steve
